St. John's Resumes Hiker Water Ministry

Jesus said, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me."

On Sunday, May 25th, The Rev. Georgia DuBose (along with her congregation) blessed a new sign welcoming hikers of the Appalachian Trail to quench their thirst with a bottle of free water.

The water station is situated under a beautiful shade tree where hikers are encouraged to rest and replenish.

July has been a very hot month in Harpers Ferry, and many hikers have been grateful for the Water Ministry.

So far this summer, among visitors who have signed our guest book as hikers, we have had people from Tucson, AZ; Peachtree City, GA; Wheeling, WV;Auburndale, MA; Damascus, VA; Boise, ID; Spartanburg, SC; New Brunswick, Canada; Taylors Falls, MN; Lancaster, PA

Some quotes from July hikers follow:

  • July 8: Felix from Germany: Be blessed!
  • July 9: "Whistler" from Boston, MA: Thank you so graciously
  • July 11: "Singing Wind" from New Zealand: Many thanks, and a smile.
  • July 19: "Sharkey": While I typically don't sign church registers--the water says more than words could ever hope
  • July 22: Thomas Hill, an Episcopalian: Great idea, and truly Christian. I will pray for your church
