Easter 2008 at St. John's

Each year our congregation gathers for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. But there are actually two gatherings. One is to prepare the church for the wonder of the day to follow. We clean, polish brass and silver, vacuum the red carpet, and bring out the white and gold celebratory church hangings that will be in place for the 50 days of Easter. We also enjoy each other’s company, catch up with neighbors, and eat pizza from Ariano’s Pizza, another neighborhood landmark only two doors away.

The altar at St. John’s is where the family gathers to share the Eucharist, the remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice. Here, the altar is ready to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion. You are invited to church this to share in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the rebirth and renewal that occur when our spirits are touched by his Holy Spirit in the sacrament of his body and blood.
